Tulip Socks

Project recap

Modifications

I used the same ultra thin yarn as my Kalajoki Socks to knit the pair.

Very happy with the colour combination! The colourwork looks gorgeous in this yarn, especially the marbled purple colour. Initially I was worried that it’s too distracting as a background colour, but it turned out to be excellent. My knitting buddy said the colourwork somehow got the beautiful oil painting feel and I totally agree!

Did not use the pattern. I just eyeball it and used my own recipe:

  • Cuff down
  • CO 72 sts. I should have done more, given how thin the yarn is. Next time I’ll try 78 sts or more.
  • I also knit 5 rows for the tulip instead of 4 for the pale pink after the first repeat, as this yarn is slightly thinner than the yellow. This way it produces the same row gauge.
  • FLK heel. I think it’s actually the first time I’m doing cuff down with FLK heel. This is a great alternative for heel flap and gusset, and very suitable for yarn like this.
  • First socks: 3.0mm DPN
  • Second sock: 2.75mm short circulars

  1. Finished both! Still have a bunch of ends to weave in though… Very happy with the colour combination!
